But they suffered so!

When my mom told 8 year-old Tiffany that she was pregnant BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE with twins, I threw a pillow at her and ran upstairs and cried. Like any other rational child my age would've done! Um excuse me mother, but you are bringing not one, BUT TWO nasty tiny babies into my queendom? She is lucky it was just a pillow.

That right there happens to be my mom's favorite story to tell everyone in the entire goddamned world. And those two nasty tiny babies turned 22 yesterday and we spent the weekend celebrating.

The thing is, they really do have one of those amazing birth survival stories that you see on TLC and shit. Except my mom knew she was pregnant so they weren't born in a bathroom. Without getting too graphic here because I know how we like uterine talk around these parts, these girls had nothing separating them in the womb so they could've been siamese (which is only funny now, not then) and they were incredibly high risk. In her 5th month of pregnancy, my mom was ordered to stay in the hospital on bedrest, and two months later they were delivered in the wee hours of the morning via emergency c-section. Why? Because Brittany was trying to strangle Brooke. The weird part? She still is.

The first few weeks of their lives were spent in incubators in which they looked like tiny frogs. So yea, you could say they had a rough start. So growing up my mom had a little saying, sometimes serious but mostly sarcastic..."But they suffered so!" Indeed, mother. And now we all have to.

Little sisters are truly a clichéd blessing and curse. You get to be the cool one that takes them to concerts and tells them what music they should be listening to. You get to chaperone their 8th grade field trip to Washington DC. You get to wear their clothes that one time that you were skinny enough to. Oh, and you have an automatic designated driver!

But you also have to watch them make the same mistakes you did and pull your hair out and be all OH MY GOD DID YOU LEARN NOTHING? Their freshman year of high school when you say, "Don't date my ex-boyfriend's little brother!" and then they immediately do? When you tell them that your world shouldn't revolve around a boyfriend and that they are too young and for the love of buddha please stay in school? And for fuck's sake SAVE YOUR MONEY. They don't listen. They don't listen, and they fail, and their hearts break and so does yours. Just like yours did, and just like theirs will continue to.

And all you can do is listen. And not say I told you so. And let them sleep on your couch for a few weeks. And remind them that they are beautiful, and talented, and so full of love and that they never have anything to be insecure about.

And then continue to shame them for chewing with their mouths open and liking the Kardashians.

  1. THIS IS ADORABLE. Happy birthday to your sisters!!! I had the same reaction when my parents told my sister and I we were going to have a baby brother. I was like... "I AM THE ONLY BABY IN THIS HOUSE, THAT KID NEEDS TO STEP OFF."

But then he was born and he was cute and I guess, since it's been 15 years, we have decided to keep him.

  2. For fuck's sake, SAVE YOUR MONEY, is right!

Do those signs say, "I was dry today!" as in, they didn't accidentally pee their pants? Because that's amazing. And I hope it's true.

Happy Birthday to them! I wish we could all celebrate together! :)

  3. I'm with Alissa on this. Please tell me those signs meant they didn't pee thir pants. And even if that's not what that means, I'm making my kids do that. And then I will use it in their Senior yearbook where I say nice things about them.

I was five when my sister was born. And I didn't really like her until I moved out to go to college. And now that little punk is my BFF. And I sincerely regret the 15 years of my life that I was so bratty to her.

and I'm glad Brittany didn't strangle Brooke.
and hold up. They're 22? they're my age? I thought YOU were my age.
    You're really immature, Tiff.

  4. Could there ever be a post with a more perfect balance of hilariousness, snarkyness, and sapness? Yes I did just make up three words. But this is genius. She's lucky it was just a pillow. I think I need to start carrying one around for people that piss me off.

  8. I have zero sisters. I've never wanted them, and feel nothing in the missing out department. However I have step-sisters. I did NOT sign up for the shit and it definitely doesn't count.

I love absolutely love that you hit your mother with a pillow, I will be very careful when I tell you about my pregnancy 9 years in the future.

  9. I have 2 sisters as well. This weekend I was forced to drive the 7 hours down to LA to RETAKE wedding pictures for my older sister. I totally understand what you're talking about with that whole blessing and curse thing.

  10. Awww, so sweet! My sister was my worst nightmare as kids. I couldn't stand her and was pretty mean. Good thing she forgave me cause now she's my best friend. I'm sure she wishes I was more like you.

  11. Good heavens this is incredible. You THREW a PILLOW at your MOTHER?! Hysterical. I nearly threw one at mine because my mother didn't give me siblings.

    2. This might be funnier than the tweet. I have trouble remembering what day it is, but I'm not usually 3 days off.

OH MY GOD, I needed a good laugh.

  12. You sound like a mama here talking about your sisters :) Which is sweet- it sounds like you love them very much even though they can drive you up the wall. Ahh sisterly love!

  13. Great collage. I'm guessing those "I was dry today." signs had to do with potty-training? I already told you I adore this story. I can totally relate. From what I hear, I wasn't happy about sharing my parents either.

  14. Hoochie... we're meant to be friends. We both have siblings that are twins. Although my twin sisters are older, I think our stories are kind of the same. They didn't like me at first because obviously I was the cutest baby.

  15. I was dry today! I love it. I have a little sister and a little brother. My sister and I are only 18 months apart. She has always been my best friend. It's weird now though living over 1000 miles apart.

  16. Poor Brooke! That's why she's my fav Golota, I like a good underdog story!

I can't believe it's been a year since Laughlin...and that they are only 22. It feels like they're at least 25!

    Thanks for linking up LP!
