allergies on allergies.

I used to make fun of people who cited "Seasonal Allergies" as a medical concern on health history forms. And now I am suffering from them worse than I ever have. SERVES ME RIGHT.

A few weeks ago I whined about my heart palpitations and how they were making me majorly cray-zay. Like holy shit I am going to die at any moment now, crazy. Well, lucky for you I am still here. And through the power of SCIENCE! and EXPERIMENTATION! Justin and I have narrowed down the cause of my "condition." I am allergic to allergy pills (Claritin and Zyrtec, so far). How that is even possible or fair, I have yet to find out.

I have been taking benadryl at night so that I can sleep and wake up with the ability to breathe without sounding like Notorious B.I.G. and it turns me into a complete moron the next day.

Which is a really long way of saying that I don't have a post for you today. Just a really long excuse why I don't have a comprehensible post. Because I am allergic to SEASONS and also the medication to treat them.

However. HOW-EVER. Thursday, as in this Thursday two days from now I have something big for you guys. Something (that doesn't involve a white dress or my uterus) that will change your life and the world of blogging forever. So if you'll excuse me now, I'm going to crawl back in my benadryl haze and continue pretending to be a dragon.

  5. Yuck.

I take zyrtec 24 every night before bed and snort gross nose spray up my nostrils twice a day and I keep my shit in check.

If I take zyrtec and another medication, I get crazy sweats and heart thumping and I sit around rocking and saying WHYYYYYYYY. Sort of like Demi Moore at the end of St. Elmo's Fire.

  6. Fucking allergies. I haven't been able to wear my contacts in a week because my eyes are so itchy. I wonder if you would be allergic to the allergy shot?

  8. I'm allergic to one of the allergy meds, too - Allegra. I can't take it or I get horribly nauseous. That is weird they were giving you heart palpitations though! I've read that they can have the same effect as caffeine, which can also cause that...but I don't know. I'm glad you figured it out, though!!! I have an arrhythmia too and it's ANNOYING as heck and yes, you feel like you're going to die and it sucks!

I don't have allergies so I don't have anything to add. Maybe a HA! I win! But that's a little mean.

  11. Those OTC remedies leave me with heart palpitations. Holy cow, what is worse? Needing to continually blow your nose or feeling the urge to EXIT YOUR SKIN?!

    :-) Nice post!

  12. Eep! I feel ya I was allergic to the birth control pill which was just as silly in my mind. Although the doctor I saw most recently (I changed GPs) said "not allergic, just a bad side effect"...which made me want to smack her in the face. A giant rash all over my chest and sinking into a severe depression - I don't care what you call it lady, don't ever ask me to go onBC.

Ahem. Wow. Sorry. I didn't realise I had so much pent up ranting to do on this issue.

  17. Okay now I'm dying to know what the heck is going on here on Thursday!

Suffering from allergies and allergic to allergy medications? OMG. That is a curse. Do you use a neti pot? I don't know if that would help or not, but it helps my sinuses. I woke up in the middle of the night the other night ITCHING LIKE A MOTHERF***** and with no other recourse, took some pills I found in the cabinet prescribed to Matt that expired in 1999. LOL. I stopped itching, though!

  18. Claritin gives me heart palpitations too.

Over the weekend my dad's eyes were super puffy - huge bags underneath his eyes and almost completely closed. His nose doubled in size and was bright red. He thought he was having allergies so he didn't go to the doctor until Monday and they freaked out. They think he may have a staff infection and said he could have easily died if it traveled to his brain.

So don't mess around if you get crazy symptoms!

I love that you're allergic to allergy meds. I mean, I am so sorry, but it's kind of amazing. SO MUCH IRONY.
